393 Field ProvisionsBring a sufficient range of personal food and beverages, but also , as we will have all of us AND our gear also traveling in the vans. All food must have sealed and hygienic storage, in an animal-proof container that you keep in the vehicle. I recommend rectangular 1 liter Nalgene bottles with screw top (below). The pop-up suggestion list is the minimum personal provisions that you should acquire for eight days without further grocery shopping (we will NOT make special additional runs because you forgot). Personal first-aid items have a red background, camp utility items are over yellow, and food is on the green. EACH person should have these items; do not plan to borrow someone else's, as they will need their own. We will have one major reprovisioning stop mid-trip at Alpine TX. PLEASE remember, we have very little storage space in the vehicles. Except for communal gear, always start the day by drinking a liter of water, carrying three liters of drinking liquids (NO alcohol, and electrolyte restoratives such as Gatorade are good additives), and downing another liter upon return to camp. Do not "plan" to borrow water; your "lender" will have the same bodily needs as yourself. Dehydration on the trail was the closest we ever came to having a medical emergency on previous trips, and be assured I won't permit that to happen again.
