PROJECT DESIGN

TERM PROJECT: Each student will conduct and present an original investigation pertaining to a class theme, which will be "Toward an Atlas of Risk: Spatial Analyses of Hazardous Locations". Organize your findings as a web page (with at least one map), and present it within ten minutes to the class during the last sessions of the semester (including the final exam period scheduled for 10:15 on Saturday, December 18th). Never made a web page? Check http://www.hwg.org  Your attendance is required at ALL presentations, whether you are presenting or not.

YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR TERM PROJECT (both the HTML and the image files) as attachments to an e-mail. You also will have to submit various project "milestones" (see calendar) so as to pace your progress. HTML is quite simple, and several HTML and graphics editors are network accessible at campus workstations. I will devote some class time to acquaint you with some of these progrrams. Do NOT submit a "hard" (paper) copy of your project; you must submit a DIGITAL files via e-mail.

Following the presentations in December, I intend to post all or part of each project onto our class web site. Because of this, we shall have to be rigorous in proper citation format for all outside references. This includes references to external web sites; see Walker for proper URL citation format. Although you may use quotes or images from external sites if you properly cite them, I cannot put these "borrowed" materials onto our class web site unless you also obtain written permission from the author(s).

A copy of the checklist that I will use to evaluate your work in this course appears below. Use it as a guide to structuring your project. Proofread all work; careless words just make good ideas look foolish, and  reflect especially poorly upon the authors of 300-level projects!

As I will be adding additional information here, this web page remains...
