Requirements of Van Training Program

A UWSP in-house training program is required by individuals that will be using the 15- passenger vans.

No one under 25 years of age is allowed to operate a 15-passenger van.

It is strongly recommended that any individual that drives a larger vehicle (cargo vans, cube vans, etc.) as a requirement of their employment take advantage of the training program. This includes any faculty, staff or student.

The Van Driver Training Program is comprised of the following steps:

These forms can be found in the Van Training Packet.
  1. Complete the Van Training Program Registration Form

  2. Complete a Vehicle Use Authorization, if you do not have one on file with the Transportation Department. (Student forms are valid for one academic year.)

  3. View the "Coaching the Van Driver" video (1 1/4 hours) in the library.

  4. Complete the written quiz and pass with 80% accuracy.

  5. Complete the Behind-the-Wheel session which lasts approximately 20 mins to a 1/2 hour.

All necessary forms are available in the Van Training Packet, in the Transportation Office, Room 127 George Stien Building or by calling 346-2884.

The VCR tape is available at the Instructional Materials Center (IMC) located on the 3rd floor of the Learning Resources Center. The tape must be viewed there.

After viewing the tape and completing the quiz, please contact the Transportation Office at 346-2884 to schedule a Behind-the-Wheel training session.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration has set forth additional requirements related to the use of 15-passenger vans; each UWSP van driver must meet DOA's Active Driver definition.
