Foundations in Writer's Workshop

Course:

EDUC 570
Section: 794
Credits: 1
Format: Face-to-Face
Description:

Writing is hard work; teaching it is even harder.  This series is specifically designed for teachers of writing in grades 3-8 who are interested in implementing writer's workshop, but don't know quite how.  Day one consists of a detailed introduction of writer's workshop.  Topics include helping students with topic choice, scheduling, designing mini-lessons, teaching grammar, assessment practices, and conducting the writing conference.  By the end of the day, you will have the knowledge and tools to go back to your classroom and begin to establish your own writer's workshop.  Day two features Aimee Buckner, author of Notebook Know-How: Strategies for the Writer's Notebook.  Buckner will spend the day at CESA 5 sharing lessons, tips and samples of student writing so that teachers can make the most of writer's notebooks, without sacrificing time needed for the rest of the literacy curriculum.
