Looking Through a Different Lens:  Re-Visioning our English Language Arts Units for the 21st Century

Course:

EDUC 570
Section: 796
Credits: 1
Format: Face-to-Face
Description:

This two-day seminar will allow teachers to explore a 21st Century Skills Framework in order to revise a unit of instruction that integrates classic concepts, knowledge and skills with this new framework and current state standards.

We will explore recent articles, research, strategies, technology and frameworks that encourage a broadened approach to teaching "literacy," and will ultimately work to incorporate the new WI 21st century framework with best practices in the field of English Language arts.  Teachers will gain exposure to recent approaches in teaching and integrating new "literacies" like media and informational literacy, and will also practice new and interesting approaches to traditional reading and writing.  Teachers will leave the course with a reframed unit of study and will have an opportunity to share and reflect on the teaching of this unit.
