Course: COMD 797 - voice disorders in pediatric populations
Section: 793
Credits: 1-2
Description: The topic of pediatric voice disorders has received greater attention in the speech-language pathology literature during the past five-ten years. Following a brief review of the normal structure and functions of the four subsystems of speech, this course will focus directly on information pertaining to the most frequently occurring voice disorders in infants, and young children, including disorders of the aerodigestive tract, as well as organic and functional voice disorders.

Coverage of voice disorders in school age children and adolescents will be directed toward a better understanding of paradoxical vocal fold motion and functional voice disorders.

Referral, assessment, and treatment issues in pediatric populations will be discussed in light of current practice and ideas for the future.
