Course Description
This course will focus on the use of the five criteria for exemplary literacy instruction recommended by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. You will also learn about writing and motivation as critical pieces of literacy achievement and the English Language Arts power standards recently  identified by the WI Department of Public  Instruction to enhance best practices for teachers.  You will explore the relationship between theory and practice in exemplary teaching, and the methods that teachers use to make meaning of their professional learning.
