Plan To Continue The Conference In The Future. A Third Site, Ashland, Is

Holding A Conference In 1992.

Information And Prepared Displays - Often In Conjunction With A Required

Classrooms In The District As Part Of A Fledgling "environmental Awareness

Received Inservice Training On Recycling And Recycling Activity Development

They Were Tested On The Materials Presented And Lessons Were Submitted,

Evaluated, And Modified. The Lessons Have Been Integrated Into The Present

Curriculum. Through Surveys And Discussions, The Project Director And The

DNR Consultant Found The Project To Have Been A Success As 100% Of Teachers

Reported Using Their Lessons, Recycling In The Room, And Being Satisfied

With The Recycling Programs Developed. Recycling And The Use Of Related

Activities Takes Place In The 1992-1993 School Year Also. Mailings And

Troops (surpassing The Goal Of 40% Of Troops) Participated In Two One-hour

Environmental Training Sessions. The First Session Provided These Leaders

Of Diverse Backgrounds With A Variety Of Resources And Ideas To Promote

Environmental Awareness In Troops From Kindergarten Through Senior Levels

(see Appendix). The Second Session Developed Skills Useful In Researching,

Planning, And Implementing An Action Project. As Indicated By Their

Responses In The Training Evaluations, This Gave The Leaders The Confidence

To Guide The Girls Through The Same Process. The Number Of Participation

Patches Purchase (1,204) Is An Indication For The Number Of Girls participating.

Forests" Slide Show Was Developed And Shown To Park Visitors. Several

Exhibits Were Made For Use At Each Part, And Supportive Materials Were

Were Introduced To Compass Work Through This Project. All Objectives Were

Met Except For One. The Topographic Map Objective 1.2 Did Not Work Out As

Well As Hoped. Mastery Was Not Attained But The Students Did Get Exposed T

The Maps. It Was Meaningful. Some Of The Worksheets Were Already

Available. Some Were Redone To Make Them Useable For First And Fifth

Graders. The Trips To Maitland Park Were Favored By The Students. Activity

1.1.2 Was Redone So The Students Could Work In The Gym Instead Of On The

Playground In Bad Weather. They Used Yard And Masking Tape Which Worked Very

Well. The Students Met Instant Success. The Culminating Activity To The Z

In-school Paper Recycling Programs. Whitehall's Sunset Elementary School

Participated In A Recycling Logo Contest. Winning Designs Were Printed On

Recycled Paper Placemats For Use In Local Restaurants. High School

Students, Along With Adult Advisors, Worked Together To Produce A Paper

Recycling Videotape For Use On The Local Cable TV Access Channel. Project

Synopsis: This Grant Supported The Second Year Of Development Related To

The Assessment Of Wisconsin Teacher And Student Environmental Literacy.

Developed A Pilot Test Administered To WI Teachers, 5th Graders, And 11th

Graders. Four Pilot Versions Were Developed And One Instrument For Each

Population Will Be Developed. Thus The Student Assessment Goals Were On

Target And The Teacher Assessment Objectives Were Surpassed. Copies Of The

Student And Teacher Instruments Were Included With The Final Report.

Synopsis: Nineteen Educators, Representing A Wide Range Of Grade Levels A

Subject Areas, Attended A Three-day Workshop On The Wisconsin River. During

This Workshop, Agency And Non-agency Staff Presented Hands-on Sessions And

Informational Talks On Various Aspects Of The River, Including History,

Ecology And Contemporary Issues. Participants Canoed The River, Conducted

Water Chemistry And Invertebrate Sampling, And Toured The Rhinelander Paper

Mill And Rice Reservoir. They Also Interviewed Local Citizens To

Investigate And Analyze Relevant Local Environmental Issues.

Participants Received Numerous Resource Materials, And A Binder Comprised O

Collected Curriculum And Reference Materials. Participants Developed Action

Synopsis: Students in the Environmental Studies class at Wonewoc-Center

High School researched, wrote, constructed, and installed 20 interpretive

signs along part of the 400 Trail. An observation platform/ rest area was

also built by the students (with some help from the Wonewoc Area Betterment

Club). Three interpretive signs were installed on the platform.
