Education for
Sustainability
Education for
sustainability (EfS) provides people with the knowledge,
skills, ways of thinking, and opportunities to promote a
healthy and livable world. It is a holistic and
systems-based approach to teaching and learning that
integrates social justice, economics, and environmental
literacy. The ultimate outcome of EfS is to sustain both
human and natural communities.
Statewide Vision
The Wisconsin Center for
Environmental Education (WCEE) i n
partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Public
Instruction (DPI) Environmental Education Consultant facilitated a process to develop a vision of and garner input on
education for sustainability (EfS) in Wisconsin. Input was gathered
from schools, agencies, and groups throughout the state. As a result of
the year-long process stakeholders will benefit from enhanced capacity,
support, and resources to implement EfS.
