The Great Sunflower Project
Source: Gretchen LeBuhn, San Francisco State University
Web site
By watching and recording the bees at sunflowers in your garden, you can help understand the challenges that bees are facing. To participate, sign up and plant your sunflower; describe your garden; time how long it takes 5 bees to visit your sunflower plant; enter your data online or mail the form. By finding a way to track and value of the goods and services provided by natural ecosystems, we will find a future in which conservation is not a luxury but a guiding principle of daily decision-making throughout the world. The data you collect from your sunflowers will be a start. It will provide an insight into how our green spaces in the urban, suburban, and rural landscapes are connected as well as shedding light on how to help pollinators.
