Over 100 state agency representatives from Minnesota participated in a day-long interagency EE summit on May 28th. Called "Working Toward an Environmentally Literate Citizenry: The Role of the State Agencies", the summit included education and information officers from 20 different agencies. The Lt. Governor, Joanne Benson, and several commissioners also joined the summit. Suzanne Saric, U.S. EPA Region IV Education Coordinator provided a keynote address and NEEAP Coordinator Abby Ruskey facilitated an Open Space session where participants identified and worked on key issues, opportunities, and collaborative projects. Participants left with several projects underway and a desire to continue discussion of common areas of concern. Follow-up will include topical brown bag lunches, an email broadcast and listserve, and plans for another gathering next year. Projects underway include an initiative to provide a "Foundations of EE" training for agency personell as well as a theme-based collaborative "academy" for teacher training.
