Forestry Education for the Wisconsin K-12 Classroom

This workshop highlights principles, activities, and techniques for teaching K-12 students about the importance of Wisconsin's forests. It touches on ecological, economic, and social aspects of forestry in Wisconsin. Participants receive the LEAF Wisconsin K-12 Forestry Lesson Guide and additional forestry-related education materials. This workshop is designed for K-12 classroom teachers pursuing new skills and methodologies to teach their students about forestry.
In this workshop participants will:
- Receive background information on Wisconsin's forests
- Discuss current issues and trends affecting Wisconsin's forests
- Learn about the lessons in the LEAF
- Guide by observing others' teaching
- Team teach a LEAF activity from their grade level
- Receive additional resources for teaching about Wisconsin's forests

Format This 12-hour face-to-face workshop is available either with or without graduate credit.

ASSIGNMENTS
A short
Pre-assignment
is required prior to the start of the workshop. This web-based
activity helps one become familiar with basic forestry concepts and
the LEAF Program. You can view the Conceptual Guide used in the
Pre-assignment
here.
In addition, a
Team
Presentation assignment may require a minimal amount
of time outside of class to gather resources for an in-class team
teaching activity.
If you choose to take the optional graduate credit, a final
assignment is required. The final assignment includes teaching a
LEAF lesson in your classroom and submitting a written report to the
workshop instructor.
