Working Lands Initiative

Working Lands Initiative in Governor's Budget
The Working Lands Initiative is now part of the Governor's budget proposal, as a result of the hard work and efforts of many dedicated individuals. The items in the budget proposal include: modernization of the farmland preservation program, establishment of Agricultural Enterprise Areas (AEAs), and development of a statewide Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easements (PACE) program. See the DATCP Working Lands website for assembly bill language and more information regarding the proposed Working Lands budget items.

Winter Workshops Focus on Farmland Protection
Bob Wagner, Senior Director of Farmland Protection Programs for American Farmland Trust, brings his expertise and experience in farmland preservation to Working Lands efforts in Wisconsin. In this article, Bob summarizes recent Working Lands Workshops held around the state since December 2008. He also provides more information regarding American Farmland Trust and the campaign with Gathering Waters Conservancy to promote Wisconsin's Farms and Forests.

Smart Growth Implementation Assistance

The SGIA program provides direct technical assistance to local communities that want to incorporate smart growth techniques into their future development. The 2009 Request for Applications (RFA) is open to state, local, regional, and tribal governments (and non-profits that have partnered with a governmental entity). Applications must be received by April 23, 2009.
