Conserve School
The nature of
education
Conserve School is an independent
boarding school for students who share an interest in the environment and a
love of the outdoors. The curriculum is geared for students in their junior
or senior year of high school, who wish to spend one semester immersed in
the study of nature, ecology, and the science of conservation. The variety
of outdoor activities includes week-long explorations to places such as the
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Isle Royale in Lake Superior. The
program cultivates a sense of place and community, with emphasis on active
participation.
The campus, located in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin, spans 1,200 acres of
woodlands and wetlands, with eight lakes and over 20 miles of trails for
hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. The Sylvania Wilderness Area
shares its northern border.
Fellows work with Conserve School students to augment the classroom
curriculum, instruct students in outdoor and natural history skills, and
provide nurturing residential life experiences. Fellows also serve as
mentors to help prepare all Conserve School students to be ethical and
environmentally sensitive leaders and stewards within any career choice.
