Forestry
Paul Doruska, Ph.D.
Paul Doruska is an associate professor in the forestry discipline in
the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin -
Stevens Point, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in
forest measurements, forest biometry, and experimental design, in
addition to teaching portions of the Introduction to Fisheries,
Forestry, and Wildlife class in the core curriculum & co-teaching the
Pulpcut/chainsaw safety course. Paul is also involved with international
programs as he has led the Mexico-Belize-Guatemala Winterim course. Paul
takes pride in serving as the co-faculty advisor to the UW-SP student
chapter of the Society of American Foresters and its timbersports team,
and he also offers continuing education professional short courses in
forest inventory and computing techniques.
While he is first and foremost dedicated to teaching, Paul also
maintains an active interest in research and professional service. His
research work has and continues to focus on forest inventory techniques.
Work in the past has focused on stand density index based management,
close range remote sensing, and developing equations to allow foresters
to inventory timber by weight. His present work (involving both graduate
and undergraduate students) is focusing on volume and biomass equations
for Wisconsin timber species and more efficient forest inventory
techniques. Paul has mentored 18 students on projects in conjunction
with the annual CNR Undergraduate Research Symposium. With respect to professional service, Paul currently is the
North/Northeastern Regional Science Representative to the Society of
American Foresters Forest Science & Technology Board, serves as the
Science and Technology Chair for the Wisconsin State Society of American
Foresters, is a past associate editor for the Journal of Forestry.
Paul is also active in the community. He is a member of both the
Portage County Historical Society and the Stevens Point Curling Club.
