Over the last fifteen years he has participated on many working committees of the North American Association for Environmental Education and served on its board of directors. He is on the World Wildlife Fund U.S. Education Advisory Committee, has served as Chairman of the Board for the Global Network of Environmental Education Centers and served on the Education Working Group of President Clinton's Counsel on Sustainable Development. He is a former Chairman of the International Joint Commission on Environmental Education Research.  Presently he is serving as Associate Dean of Extension and Outreach /Director of the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS A native of Illinois, Brenda worked as a park ranger for eight years on the upper Mississippi river, then returned to graduate school, attained a M.S. at Stephen F. Austin in Texas, then her Ph.D. at the University of Idaho.  Her research efforts focused on assessing communication and interpretive efforts as a way to alleviate human/black bear conflicts in Yosemite National Park.  Prior to coming to UWSP, Brenda worked as Manager of Research and Program Evaluation for Cleveland Metroparks, conducting assessments of visitor satisfaction and program evaluation in an urban park system.  Her research interests include environmental interpretation and communication, program evaluation, visitor studies, and human/wildlife conflicts.

Examples of other thesis topics include "The Status of EE at the State Level" and the "Impact of an On-line Course on Program Evaluation".

Personal:

Dr. Wilke is an avid outdoors person. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and canoeing. He also raises and trains Labrador retrievers and competes with them in field trials.
