About the Conference
Each fall the Wisconsin
Center for Environmental Education hosts a conference
for high school students and teachers. A different
environmentally-related theme is featured each year. A
variety of professionals and students present sessions,
workshops, and posters related to the theme. The
conference is most often held on the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus.
The purpose
of this event is to:
- Share information
on current environmental issues.
- Provide a forum
where students and teachers from all over Wisconsin
can learn, network, and share ideas.
- Empower students
with tools to solve environmental dilemmas.
- Provide career
information and skill-building opportunities.
History
The first High School
Conference on the Environment was held in 1991. Since
then there has only been one year in which the conference was not held. Governor Doyle recognized the significance of this event
and with his endorsement the event became known as the
Governor's High School Conference on the Environment
from 2003-2008.
