The 2008 Governor’s High School Conference on the Environment
Student Power: Conserving Your Future with Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

Energy efficiency and renewable energy as the conference themes…
The 17th High School Conference on the Environment showcaseed what students throughout the state are doing to conserve energy both at school and in their homes. Students had the opportunity to learn about energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy alternatives, and careers in energy. They also learned how to implement low or no-cost energy action plans in their school and at home, reducing energy consumption, costs, and detrimental environmental impacts.

New This Year - Every Teacher Received an Energy Education Resource Package! (teaching tips, brochures, CD ROMs, catalogs, and more!)

New This Year - Write an Essay and Win a Solar Backpack!
Students can win a solar backpack and $100 U.S. Savings Bond by showing us how much you learned at this year’s conference! Each student is given the opportunity to write a short paper on an energy issue and a possible solution to the issue after the conference is over. More information

Exhibits

The exhibit hall featured student poster presentations, professionals speaking about their careers, college displays, and professional exhibits related to energy resource management. Students had one session during the day dedicated to visiting the exhibit hall.

Action Pledge
Students and teachers from each school regrouped to discuss highlights of their day and made an Action Plan to implement what they learned when they returned to school.

Door Prizes
During the conference wrap-up, students and teachers who were present were entered into a drawing for a variety of door prizes.
