Wisconsin Program
Other upcoming GET programs in
South Africa (2012) and
Puerto Rico (2012)
GET
strives to provide complete teacher exchanges by offering a follow-up
program in Wisconsin a year after an international exchange. During the
program, participants from previous GET programs in Puerto Rico, South
Africa, or China get the opportunity to travel to Wisconsin to
explore the state's natural
resources and learn new techniques for how to use environmental education in
their classrooms. Multinational participation helps teachers relate their
experience of Wisconsin ecology to ecosystems around the world. The
program challenges teachers from four distinctly different countries to work
together through language and cultural barriers to reach a shared
understanding of Wisconsin’s natural resource landscape and environmental
challenges. Teachers work to translate this knowledge into lesson
plans they can use with their students upon completion of the program.
In addition, teachers are encouraged to forge international
teacher-to-teacher partnerships that will enrich their students’
environmental education experience for years to come.
Dates: This program is
currently not being offering. Please check back.
Requirements:
Priority is given to those teachers who have
participated in a past GET program but invitation is
extended to other educators (formal and non-formal) if space is available. The travel course
will be delivered in English, but GET will work to have as many program
activities translated into participants’ native language as possible.
English language skills are strongly recommended.
Components:
Participants will travel throughout Wisconsin for the duration of the
two-week program. Course theme is on Energy Resources in Wisconsin.
