Landowner Workshops
Landowners are in a unique position to increase the availability of learning opportunities for teachers and students.
Often, the closest forested land to a school is privately owned. As a landowner, you can provide the link that helps students make the connection between what they learn in the classroom about forests and what the forest experience really is. Many children have not spent time exploring the unique features and uses of Wisconsin's forests.
This workshop is intended for Wisconsin
forest landowners who would like to provide teachers and students
that opportunity to learn hands-on about responsible forest
management.
In this 8-hour workshop, landowners discuss the importance of
forestry education and learn about basic education principles. Each
landowner receives a book containing the LEAF field enhancements for
grades K-8 - lessons that make it easy for landowners to share the
unique features of their forest with teachers and students.
Landowners are encouraged to make connections with local teachers
who have participated in a LEAF workshop.
The primary goals of this workshop are to:
- provide teachers who use LEAF classroom materials a local forested site where they can take students for LEAF-related field experiences.
- provide forest landowners with Wisconsin specific forestry field lessons.
BUT - we ask that you please contact us at leaf@uwsp.edu if you and other landowners you know are interested in learning more about how to use your property to educate our youth about the important work you do to maintain a healthy forest and ecosystem.
