Service Saturdays

Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.-Margaret Mead

Service Saturdays are a social, flexible, and rewarding way to make a concrete difference in our community without long-term, individual volunteering. With 2 - 4 hour volunteering increments, even the busiest students can get involved!
With a range of different volunteering opportunities, from building with Habitat for Humanity to cooking dinner for the Salvation Army and cleaning up our area parks and Green Circle Trail, there is something for everyone to get involved, have some fun, meet other students from UWSP, and of course, help our community!
The highest reward for a person's work is not what they get for it,
but what they become because of it.- John Ruskin

Frequently Asked Questions:
Are Service Saturdays different from volunteering independently? Is it better?
Service Saturdays are intended to be perfect for those students who don't have the time or resources available to volunteer on a regular basis with an area agency. Unlike volunteering with an agency one-on-one, Service Saturdays allows you to volunteer with a group of students in a relaxed setting.
Do we have to travel for Service Saturdays?
All Service Saturdays take place in the Stevens Point area, with local agencies. For any agency that is not within walking distance from UWSP, SERVE will provide transportation.

Do we need any special skills or tools?
In some instances you will need proper clothing, such as when working outdoors. Any tools you need (trash bags, rubber gloves, etc.) will be supplied by the SERVE Office. The only special skill needed is to understand basic safety measures. Wear the right shoes, bring a jacket, and if you aren't sure how to do something, ask for help!
What if I decided at the last minute to bring my little sister or my friend?
The more the merrier, but if a child under the age of 18 is volunteering a waiver must be signed by the parent prior to volunteering. To download the waiver, visit: http://forms.uwsp.edu/centers/forms/holdharmless.htm
What if I have other questions about Service Saturdays?
Please feel free to email the Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator at: sieovol@uwsp.edu.
How else can I get involved?
Looking for other volunteer opportunities? Stevens Point has plenty of agencies, events, and student organizations to keep you busy! Check out the SOD for student orgs, go back to the SIEO volunteer webpage to view the calendar, or stop by SIEO to find out about the volunteer activities happening on campus!
