What causes poverty? Why are people homeless? Explore these questions and then make an impact during Intercity Impact!
Intercity Impact has two equally important components - Impact Trainings and a weekend service trip.
Impact Trainings are high energy, interactive workshops. There are three 90 minute workshops before the service trip. The purpose of the Impact Trainings is threefold:
- Get to know the other students who are participating in Intercity Impact
- Explore the root causes of poverty and homelessness
- Prepare for the service trip
Following the Impact Trainings is a weekend service trip. During the trip we will volunteer with non-profit agencies working to alleviate and prevent poverty and homelessness in their community. The trip is a blend of hands-on service and educational opportunities.
The fall Intercity Impact focuses on urban poverty with a trip to Milwaukee. The spring Intercity Impact focuses on rural poverty with a trip to a Native American reservation.
Intercity Impact is a collaboration between SERVE, Multicultural Affairs, and the UWSP Native American Center.
