About the Federal Work Study Program
The Federal Work Study Program provides funding to assist qualified students to attend college. The Program pays a portion of the student wages while the employer pays a small match. In 1994, the Work Study Program was expanded to include a "community service" focus.
Community service is designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their needs. Employment areas may include: health care, child care, literacy training, education, welfare, social services, transportation, housing and neighborhood improvement, public safety, recreation, and rural development.
UWSP has a rich tradition of servicing non-profit agencies through the use of Work Study employees. UWSP students make excellent employees who are eager to gain skills through off-campus employment.
If your agency falls into one of these categories, continue reading to find out how you can hire Work Study students in your work setting.
