School of Business and Economics

Business Administration

Business Administration prepares students to work in a range of industries, businesses, and nonprofits. The program allows students to choose from a variety of elective courses to create a particular area of concentration—marketing or management, for example— within the Business major. Many of our graduates work in the finance and insurance industries.

There have been many recent changes to the Fall 2011 schedule of Business courses!  As you prepare to meet with your advisors to discuss your Fall registration plans, please see below for the latest info on:

  • one class with sections recently removed from online timetable
  • new classes/sections recently added to online timetable
  • classes with all seats Permission Required (PR)
  • sections with seats saved for students in concentrations
  • sections with seats saved for non-traditional students
  • tentative schedule of electives for Spring 2012

Good luck with registration!

Classes with all seats Permission Required (PR)

There are a few, high-demand classes that have ALL seats requiring PR, either from the instructor or a faculty advisor.  These classes are:

  • Bus. 322:  Leadership
  • Bus. 325:  Organizational Behavior
  • Bus. 339:  International Marketing
  • Bus. 340:  Business Law & Ethics
  • Bus. 390:  Ethics
  • Bus. 480:  Strategic Management

Follow the instructions in the online timetable to request permission for these classes.

Sections with seats saved for students in concentrations:

Many Business classes have been “sub-divided” into a “regular” section and a Permission Required (PR) section.  We have done this in order to assist students who are working towards a concentration in Business.  (Students working on concentrations need many more Bus. & Econ classes and have limited flexibility as to course selection.)

Here’s an example of such a class:

BUSINESS  321 ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Prereq: 320 OR 325; 330; ACCT 210
Sec    1  3.0       LECT    1 12:35-13:50  T R    CPS     322  Schalow, David         25   5
PR Sec    2  3.0       LECT    1 12:35-13:50  T R    CPS     322  Schalow, David         10   5
For students in Management or Entrepreneurship concentration; Section 1 is the “regular” section---open to all students who have the prerequisites---no permission is required to register.

Section 2 is the PR (Permission Required) section set aside for students pursuing concentrations.  As it says in the timetable, if you have declared such a concentration, you should meet with your faculty advisor to discuss your course selections.  If your advisor agrees you are a good candidate for the course, your advisor can give permission.  Your seat will then be saved until you register. After registration has closed, you will be notified that your section number has changed because the PR section has been “recombined” with the “regular” section.  Everything else will be the same.

The courses with seats saved for concentration students are:

  • Bus. 321-section 2:  Entrepreneurship---for Entrepreneurship concentration
  • Bus. 322-section 2:  Leadership---for Management concentration
  • Bus. 324-sections 2 & 4:  Human Resources---for Management concentration
  • Bus. 331-section 2:  Marketing Research---for Marketing concentration
  • Bus. 336-section 2:  Sales Management---for Marketing concentration
