Database:
We are in the process of entering all of our Wisconsin specimens into
a database. This information will be used in conjunction with other
UW's databases to generate distribution maps, accurate morphological
and ecological descriptions and provide electronic records of rare and
endangered plants for scientific study.
Bryophytes:
Our
new Curator of Bryophytes, Virginia Freire, has begun to organize the collection.
Specimens will be filed alphabetically with respect to geographic origin.
Also specimen label information are being entered into the database.
Seed Collection:
Our large collection of seed now resides in some recently acquired
cabinets. Seed material is being added daily as the organization
system is refined.
Specimen Exchange:
We are starting a trading campaign, in an effort to acquire more specimens
and work with herbaria around the country. Other herbaria willing to trade
will be contracted and sent specimens of local origin in exchange for some
of their material.
