elderberry (Sambucus spp.; HONEYSUCKLE FAMILY [Caprifoliaceae]) Medium to tall shrubs with opposite, compound leaves of 5 or 7 toothed leaflets.  Small white or cream flowers that occur in oval or flat topped clusters depending on the species.  Fruits are about ½" diameter and bright red or red-black.  [045]
