UW-Stevens Point Nearly Sweeps Lawrence

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestlers was one match from sweeping Lawrence University in a 39-3 win Tuesday at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Yan White, got things started with a 1 minute, 15 second pin of Scott Polewach at 197 pounds, and 174-pounder Cody Koenig stuck Greg Goska in 6:49.

Mike Hayes shut out Kenny Hamm 5-0 at heavyweight, and David Davila handled David Quinlan 15-6 at 125.

Brady Holtz, ranked sixth in the nation in Division III, handed Nick Morphew his second loss of the season with a 9-0 shutout at 133.

UWSP's Jared Esala dominated Brett Suhayda 10-1 at 141, and Ryan Hansen edged Ryan Dummann 6-4 at 149.

Greg Metzler got the Pointers' only other pin of the night, in 2:47 over Jimmy Lima at 157, and Josh Ison edged John Budi 7-5 at 165.

The Pointers, ranked fourth in the nation in NCAA Division III, improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Lawrence fell to 12-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.
