Koenig's Avenges Loss With First Period

Koenig avenged one of his two losses this season by recording a first
period pin on Augsburg�s Joe Moon Friday night, but it was the Pointers�
only highlight in a 37-6 wrestling loss to the Auggies in Minneapolis.
UW-Stevens Point entered the match ranked fourth
in the country and Augsburg is ranked second. The Pointers are now 7-3
overall with two losses to the top two ranked teams in the country.
Augsburg improved to 12-3 for the season.
Koenig, ranked third in Division III, improved
to 24-2 with the pin in 1:34. Moon is ranked second in Division III and
fell to 31-2 with the loss after beating Koenig in the Augsburg Open
earlier this year. Koenig also pinned Moon in last year�s national
semifinals.
Augsburg�s Mark Matzek took the other
match of the night featuring two ranked opponents, beating Brady Holtz at
133 pounds. Matzek is the top-ranked 133-pounder in the country and posted
a major decision over the sixth-ranked Holtz by a 9-1 score.
The Pointers will wrestle three matches in Eau
Claire on Saturday to conclude the regular season. UW-Stevens Point takes
on UW-Eau Claire, St. John�s and Concordia-Moorhead. |
