Womens
Basketball Announces Recruiting Class
The UW-Stevens Point womens basketball team
has announced four recruits for the 2006-07 season.
Britta Petersen of Luck, Michaela
Schooley of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and twins Camille and
Carmen Brueggen of Viroqua have all informed coach Shirley Egner of
their intentions to attend the school and play basketball for the
Pointers next fall.
UW-Stevens Point is coming off its sixth
straight 20-win season with a 20-8 overall record. The Pointers have won
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles two of the past
three years and advanced to the NCAA Division III final four two of the
past five seasons.
Petersen, a 5-10 forward, was a
three-time first-team all-conference performer and averaged 20 points
and 11 rebounds per game as a senior. A two-time team captain, Petersen
participated in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association state
all-star game. She earned 12 varsity letters in golf, basketball and
softball and was president of her schools National Honor Society.
Brittas versatility of being able to play
inside and outside will contribute to our overall depth, Egner said.
She is a blue-collar worker at both ends of the court and also off the
court.
Schooley, a 5-8 guard, has been a
second-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference selection the past three
seasons and ranks fourth on her schools all-time scoring list. Schooley
averaged 11.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a senior. She lettered
on the varsity squad for four seasons and also played two years of
volleyball. A high honors student, Schooley was a two-time team captain
and logged over 200 hours of volunteer service over the past four years.
Michaelas athleticism will enhance our
daily practices, Egner said. Her quickness, along with her ability to
get to the rim, will strengthen our perimeter play.
Camille Brueggen, a 6-2 post player,
was a first-team all-conference selection as a senior and her teams
Most Valuable Player the past two seasons. She was a second-team
all-conference performer as a junior and received honorable mention as a
sophomore. A captain in both basketball and volleyball, Brueggen was a
high honors student and recipient of several awards for her band and
choir performances.
Carmen Brueggen, a 6-2 post player,
received honorable mention all-conference laurels as a senior in both
basketball and volleyball. She also was a high honors student and
received several awards for her band and choir talents.
Im excited Carmen and Camille have chosen
to attend UW-Stevens Point, Egner said. They will add size and depth
to our post game. |
