Pointer Teams
Place Third in Season Opener
Jenna Mitchler and Teresa Stanley both had
NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times in taking the top two
spots in the women�s 5000-meter run to lead the UW-Stevens Point track
and field teams in their season-opening meet Saturday at Whitewater.
Mitchler had a time of 17:28.97 and Stanley
came in second in 17:43.04 as the women�s team was third of 14 teams
with 94 points. UW-Eau Claire won the meet with 139 points. The Pointer
men�s team was also third with 101.66 points, while UW-Whitewater won
the team title with 192.33 points.
Other winners for the women�s team were
Ashleigh Potuznik in the 3000-meter run in 10:41.82 and Amy Frey in the
triple jump in 36 feet, 5.5 inches. The 1600-meter relay team also won
with a time of 4:02.21.
Kent
Hutchinson led the men's team with a provisional mark in the long jump with a leap of
22 feet, 10.75 inches.
Travis Nechuta added a victory in the
3000-meter run in 8:46.98, Mitch Ellis won the high jump at six feet,
3.25 inches and Jason Boudreau captured the pole vault at 14 feet, 8.5
inches. The 1600-meter relay team was victorious in 3:22.85.
Both teams will compete next weekend at the
Carthage Invitational in Kenosha. |
