Pointers Open Season With Win at Carroll
UW-Stevens Point swept all six singles matches
to post a season-opening 7-2 women's tennis victory over Carroll on Friday
in Waukesha.
The victory snapped a 17-match losing streak
in dual matches for the Pointers, who were 0-12 last year and lost their
final five matches in 2003.
Angie Brown and Cathy Thornburg were winners
in both singles and doubles as Thornburg won at No. 1 singles and Brown
won at No. 2 singles after teaming for a victory at No. 2 doubles. Other
winners were Emily Bouche at No. 3 singles, Allison Popple at No. 4
singles, Sarah O'Melia at No. 5 singles and Mashell Ver Bockel at No. 6
singles.
The Pointers will compete in the UW-Whitewater
Invitational on Saturday.
