Pointers Suffer Narrow Defeat to
UW-Oshkosh
UW-Stevens Point nearly pulled off its first
conference victory of the season, but fell just short in a 5-4 loss at
UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night. The match was moved indoors because of
inclement weather.
Angie Brown and Mashell Ver Bockel posted the
Pointers� lone doubles victory with an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 and each won
singles matches as well. Brown won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Ver Bockel posted
a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5. Sarah O�Melia claimed UW-Stevens Point�s other
victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Cathy Thornburg took the second set at No. 1
singles, but was defeated by Michelle Baur in a tiebreaker. Instead of
playing the third set, the players competed in a 10-point pro-set with
Baur prevailing 11-9.
UW-Stevens Point fell to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in
the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Titans are 2-6
overall and 1-5 in the WIAC.
