Stangl Leads Pointers at La
Crosse Invitational

Elizabeth Stangl won the individual title at No. 4 singles to lead the
UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team at Saturday's UW-La Crosse
Invitational. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Stangl rallied
from a first set loss to beat Katie Cegelski of UW-La Crosse 4-6, 6-4,
6-3. She rolled past Megan Martinez of UW-La Crosse 6-0, 6-1 in the
semifinals and beat Lauren Miglantsch of UW-Oshkosh 6-3, 6-3 in the
opening round.
Mandi Matuszewski
was fourth at No. 4 singles, beating Stacy Lulloff of UW-La Crosse in
the opening round 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 before losing to Martinez 6-2, 6-3 in
the third place match.
Angie Brown was
fourth at No. 1 singles, defeating Cory Salo of UW-Oshkosh 6-2, 6-1 and
losing to Erica Schmlezer of UW-La Crosse 6-3, 6-2 in the third place
match.
Ann Robbins was
fourth at No. 3 singles with a win over Holly DeBruin of UW-Oshkosh 6-2,
7-5 and a loss to Melissa Fosdick of UW-Oshkosh 6-1, 6-3 in the third
place match.
The Pointers had three consolation champions with Mashell Ver Bockel
winning at No. 3 singles and Karen Halverson claiming the No. 4 singles
title. Ver Bockel and Sarah O'Melia won at No. 2 doubles. |
