Women's Relay Team Races to Fourth Place Finish

Evidently seeding is important in the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships and the UW-Stevens Point women's team proved just that as they finished exactly where they were seeded Thursday night in Minneapolis.

The fourth-seed 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Jerica Crook, Beth Bard, Kelsey Crunstedt and Caitlin Hake raced to a fourth place finish and all-American honors with a time of 1:36.52. Earlier in the day, the team broke their conference championship time of 1:36.43 with a third place finish in the preliminary rounds posting a 1:36.22. For Crunstedt, Bard and Hake, it marks their first all-American performance. Crunstedt earned a pair of honorable mention all-American honors last season. Crook earned her second all-American honor after claiming her first in 2004 and an honorable mention all-American accolade in 2005.

Hake also entered the meet as the seventh-seed in the 50-yard freestyle. After finishing seventh in the prelims with a time of 24.19 seconds, she wrapped up her second all-American honors of the day with a seventh place finish in the finals at 24.34 seconds. Crunstedt also secured another honorable mention all-American honor as she finished ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.46 seconds. Crunstedt qualified in a tie for 11th place in the prelims posting a mark of 24.43 seconds. Crook and Liz Herder also competed in the event but did qualify for the evening finals.

The meet continues Friday and Saturday.
