Anderson Leads Men's Team to
WIAC Relays Title
Alex Anderson swam on six of UW-Stevens
Point�s seven winning relays as the Pointer men�s swimming and diving
team won its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference relays title on Saturday in La Crosse.
The Pointer men�s team had 158 points and
UW-La Crosse was second with 138 points. The UW-Stevens Point women�s
team won five relays and totaled 150 points to finish second to UW-La
Crosse�s 162 points. UW-Stevens Point finished first or second in all 26
relays among the six conference schools.
Tyler Eloranta and John Gross were on four
winning relays, teaming with Anderson on the 200-yard freestyle in
1:25.81 and the 400-yard freestyle in 3:09.79. The pair also combined on
the only winning relay Anderson wasn�t a part of, capturing the 300-yard
medley relay in 2:42.40.
Garth Newport was on three winning relays and
Matt Grunwald, Ben Gensler and Willie Clapp each won two titles. The
Pointers also won the 400-yard medley in 3:31.49, the 800-yard freestyle
in 7:05.49, the 200-yard medley in 1:37.18 and the 300-yard breaststroke
in 2:59.74.
Caitlin Hake and Beth Bard
each swam on three
winning relays for the women�s team. Jerica Crook, Meghan Walsh, Liz Herder and Jennie Roskopf all were on two winning teams. The Pointers
set two meet records, coming in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.21 and
the 200-yard freestyle in 1:38.35. They also won the 400-yard
medley in 4:02.35, the 300-yard
butterfly in 3:03.76 and the 400-yard freestyle in 3:39.60.
