Three Men Win Two Events in Victory at St. Cloud

     Alex Anderson, Tyler Eloranta and John Gross all captured two individual events and swam on a winning relay as the UW-Stevens Point men�s swimming and diving team posted a 142-101 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday in St. Cloud, Minn.

     Jennie Roskopf won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.77 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team swam to victory as the women�s team beat Northern Michigan 165-70, but lost to St. Cloud State 139.5-77.5 in a double dual meet.

     For the men�s squad, Anderson claimed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.95 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.17 seconds. He also teamed with Willie Clapp, Garth Newport and Kyle Hartl to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.09.

     Hartl and Newport joined Eloranta and Gross in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.91. Eloranta also won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.41 seconds and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.77. Gross took the 100-yard freestyle in 48.63 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.84.  Matt Grunwald also won the 100-yard butterfly in 53.92 seconds and finished second to Eloranta in the 500-yard freestyle.

     On the women�s side, Jerica Crook, Kelsey Crunstedt, Beth Bard and Caitlin Hake combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:41.41. Hake was also runner-up in two events, suffering narrow defeats by three-tenths of a second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.82 and by six-hundreths of a second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.10.

     Lindsey Googins was runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:08.18 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.71. Abby Strobel placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.58 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.81.

     The Pointers will compete next at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference relays in La Crosse on Nov. 19.
