Swimming and Diving Teams Hope to Make Splash at WIAC Championships

WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

The UW-Stevens Point mens swimming and diving team will be going for its fifth straight conference title at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships hosted this Thursday through Saturday by UW-Oshkosh.  The womens team will be battling for a third title in five years after placing a close second behind UW-La Crosse the past two years.

Preliminary events begin each day at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 5:30 p.m. each night.  Diving will take place on Thursday and Friday starting at 12:30 p.m. with the finals taking place in the evening session.

On the mens side Alex Anderson has posted the best time in the conference this season in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley.  Anderson has the fifth best time in the nation in the 50-yard freestyle and the sixth best time in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.

Matt Grunwald will look to defend his title in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly as he has posted the best time in both events again this season.

The mens team has also posted the best time of any WIAC school in four out of the five relay events this season.

On the womens side Jennie Roskopf has the best time in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, while Elizabeth Herder will be trying to defend her title that she won as a freshman in the 100-yard backstroke.  She currently has the second best time in the event this season.

The womens team has also posted the conferences best time in three out of the five relays this season.
