Swimmers Improve to 5-0 in Duals With Sweep of UW-La Crosse

    UW-Stevens Point won both the men's and women's competition to sweep a dual meet from UW-La Crosse in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference swimming and diving action Friday in La Crosse.

     The Pointer men had eight first place finishes to win 147-95, while the Pointer women won 11 events for a 127-116 victory. Both teams are now 5-0 overall in duals and 4-0 in the WIAC.

     Chris Hansman won both diving events for the Pointer men, while Nick Hansen won the 50 freestyle in 21.91 seconds, Thad Gunther won the 200 medley in 2:03.33, Wyatt Jansen captured the 200 butterfly in 2:00.56 and Randy Boelk won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.12. The 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relays also were victorious.

     On the women's side, Christine Sammons was the only multiple winner, claiming the 200 medley in 2:16.03 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.13. Other winners were Mary Thone in the 200 butterfly in 2:15.14, Jen Randall in the 50 freestyle in 25.31 seconds and Berit Fahrner in the 1000 freestyle in 11:13.29. The 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relays also won.

     The Pointers host UW-River Falls Saturday at 1 p.m. in their final home meet and final WIAC meet of the season.
