Wins Big, Wins Close in Florida
The UW-Stevens Point softball team posted a pair
of victories in completely different fashion on Thursday in Kissimmee,
Fla., claiming a lopsided victory and an extra inning battle to improve to
6-2 for the season.
The Pointers blasted Baptist Bible (Pa.) 18-0 in
the opener and then outlasted Allegheny (Pa.) 7-4 in eight innings.
UW-Stevens Point has scored 66 runs and is averaging over eight runs per
game in its eight contests this year.
Hope Krause earned the win over Baptist Bible
with a two-hitter and three strikeouts. Laura Van Abel was
three-for-three, while Danielle Ashbeck, Mandy Jellish and Kristen
Konieczny each had two hits as 12 different players had hits for the
Pointers in the five-inning win.
The Pointers kept their offense rolling into the
second game, scoring a pair of first inning runs on run-scoring singles by
Rebekah Bauer and Laura Zierler. Korryn Brooks added a sixth inning RBI
single, but Allegheny scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to
tie the game.
UW-Stevens Point scored four times in the eighth
with Jackie Berger knocking in the go-ahead run and Chelsea McIlquham
adding a two-run single. Bauer led the offense with two hits. Ashley
Tobalsky earned the victory with nine strikeouts.
The Pointers conclude their trip on Friday by
taking on Pacific Lutheran and Washington & Jefferson. |
