Pointers Suffer
One-Run Defeats for First Losses
A pair of late leads escaped the UW-Stevens
Point softball team on Wednesday as the Pointers suffered their first two
losses of the season with a pair of one-run defeats in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Pointers saw Western Connecticut State score
two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 win in the first
game and then gave up three runs in the fifth inning to Ramapo (N.J.) in a
9-8 setback in the second game.
UW-Stevens Point pounded out 13 hits in the
first game as Rebekah Bauer was three-for-three and Jenny Feidt and Laura
Van Abel were each three-for-four. Ashley Tobalsky took the loss, allowing
11 hits and striking out three.
The second game featured plenty of early scoring
as Ramapo scored four runs in the top of the first inning before the
Pointers scored five in the bottom half. The Roadrunners retook the lead
with two in the second and the Pointers added three in their half to go
ahead 8-6 after two innings.
Laura Zierler had two-run singles in both the
first and second innings and finished two-for-four. Bauer was
two-for-three, while Stephanie Anderson, who suffered the pitching loss,
was two-for-four.
UW-Stevens Point is now 4-2 overall and takes on Baptist Bible and
Allegheny on Thursday. |
