Anderson Has Big
Day as Pointers Improve to 4-0
Stephanie Anderson fired a one-hit shutout and
drove in the games only run as the UW-Stevens Point softball team blanked
Millikin 1-0 on Monday in Kissimmee, Fla.
Anderson followed that performance with a
three-for-three effort at the plate in a 10-2 rout of Augsburg as the
Pointers improved to 4-0 after two days of their spring trip. UW-Stevens
Point has an off day on Tuesday before playing Western Connecticut State
and Ramapo (N.J.) on Wednesday.
Anderson struck out nine and carried a no-hitter
until one out in the seventh inning in the opening victory. Mandy Jellish
led off the game with a double and was bunted to third by Jenny Feidt
before Anderson drove in the only run with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.
Eight different players recorded the teams eight hits as the Pointers had
baserunners nearly every inning, but were unable to add any more runs.
After Augsburg scored in the top of the first
inning of the second game, the Pointers tallied four times in the bottom
of the first and added three more runs in the second to blow the game open
and eventually win by the eight-run rule in five innings. Anderson and
Korryn Brooks were each three-for-three, while Jackie Berger was
two-for-two and scored three runs. Ashley Tobalsky earned the complete
game victory, striking out three and scattering four hits. |
