Pointers Rack Up
22 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep
UW-Stevens Point pounded out 22 runs and 24 hits
in a doubleheader softball sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering on
Sunday at McCarty Field.
The Pointers rolled to a 10-1 win in a 57-minute
opening game and then needed slightly more than an hour to post a 12-0 win
in the second game. The Pointers are now 12-5-1 overall, while the Raiders
fell to 4-16.
Both games ended in four and a half innings due
to the eight-run rule and the Pointers scored in seven of their eight
frames. UW-Stevens Point jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third inning of
the opener after a five-run third inning.
Laura Van Abel had run-scoring singles in the
first and second innings and then drove home another run on a groundout in
the third. Mandy Jellish and Jackie Berger were each two-for-two and
Korryn Brooks was two-for-three. Laura Zierler was also two-for-three with
a pair of doubles. Hope Krause allowed three hits over five innings for
the victory.
The Pointers put up five runs in the first
inning of the second game and then six more in the second for an early
11-0 lead. Stevens Point native Rebekah Bauer had a two-run double in the
opening inning for her 37th career double, tying Sarah Berg for the
school�s career record. UW-Stevens Point sent eight straight batters to
the plate after two outs in the second inning, including a three-run homer
by Kristen Konieczny, who finished two-for-two.
Bauer was two-for-three with three RBI�s, while
Jellish and Van Abel were also both two-for-three. Ashley Tobalsky allowed
two hits and struck out four over four innings for the victory.
The Pointers play a doubleheader Monday at
Northland. |
