"Double-Up" in Sweep of Lakeland
Mandy Jellish hit her first career home run and
had four hits in the opening game, while UW-Stevens Point had a
single-game school record six doubles in the second game to roll past
Lakeland in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Saturday in
Sheboygan.
The Pointers spotted Lakeland first inning runs
in each game, but then cruised to 3-1 and 11-1 victories.
Jellish, a junior centerfielder, hit a two-run
inside the park home run to put the Pointers ahead in the third inning of the opener and
Ashley Tobalsky shut down Lakeland the rest of the way in scattering six
hits. UW-Stevens Point added a run in the seventh inning, scoring
following a two-out error on a ball hit by Jellish, who was
four-for-four.
The Pointers scored in every inning and pounded
out a total of 14 hits in their record-setting second game performance.
Rebekah Bauer had two of the doubles and finished two-for-four with three
RBI�s. Laura Zierler also doubled and was four-for-four with two RBI�s.
Jellish was three-for-four and Jenny Feidt was two-for-three.
Allison Dorn allowed four hits in the
five-inning complete game victory. UW-Stevens Point, ranked 17th in the
NCAA Division III, is now 10-3-1 overall and plays Sunday at Northland. |
