Another Shutout
for Pointer Pitchers in Florida
A fourth different starting
pitcher recorded a shutout for the UW-Stevens Point softball team in
Florida on Friday morning as Hope Krause and Katie Knoedler combined to
two-hit Concordia-Moorhead for a 4-0 win.
However, it was UW-Stevens
Point's only victory of the day as the Pointers wrapped up a brutal
stretch of seven games in two days. After playing three games on Thursday,
the Pointers opened Friday by completing a suspended game from Monday and
lost to Western Connecticut State 3-2. They also lost to Ramapo (N.J.) 5-2
and to 17th-ranked Allegheny (Pa.) 4-2 to complete the trip with a 6-4
record.
Krause made her first
collegiate start and allowed two hits and two walks over four innings.
Knoedler picked up the save, giving up no hits over the final three
frames. Jenny Feidt highlighted a three-run first inning with a
run-scoring double and pinch runner Ashley Swoboda knocked the ball loose
from the catcher on a close play at the plate to score on a groundout by
Melissa Boldt in the sixth.
The game with Western
Connecticut State was tied 2-2 in the fifth, but the Colonials scored
immediately after play resumed and held the Pointers to one hit over the
final two innings. Boldt finished three-for-three, while Feidt and
Stephanie Anderson were both two-for-four. Anderson pitched a complete
game and gave up four hits in the loss.
Rebekah Bauer had three of
UW-Stevens Point's five hits in the loss to Ramapo, finishing
three-for-four with a double. Feidt had the other two hits with a
two-for-four effort. Anderson took the loss on the mound.
Laura Van Abel was
two-for-four to lead the Pointers in the loss to Allegheny. Jenni Van Cuyk
had a double and scored both of the team's runs. Kelly Jablonski allowed
just three hits and suffered the loss.
