Jablonski and Zierler Land WIAC Softball Player of the Week Awards
UW-Stevens Point claimed both the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference softball pitcher and hitter of the week awards as Kelly
Jablonski and Laura Zierler were both honored for their performances last
week as the Pointers went 6-0 to improve to 21-8 for the season.
Jablonski,
a freshman from Stevens Point, was named the pitcher of the week for the
second time this year after throwing her second no-hitter of the season.
She had the third perfect game in school history on Sunday in a
five-inning win over Lakeland, while finishing the week allowing no earned
runs in 23 innings pitched. She struck out nine and walked one for the
week.
Zierler,
a freshman third baseman from Kaukauna, hit .579 (11-for-19) last week and
had hits in every game. She went two-for-two with an RBI in a 3-0 win over
UW-Oshkosh and went two-for-three in a 2-0 second game win for a
doubleheader sweep of the Titans. Zierler added four runs scored and three
RBI�s for the week.
Softball Games Against Ripon and Edgewood Cancelled
UW-Stevens Point�s final home softball doubleheaders scheduled for Tuesday
against Ripon and Thursday against Edgewood have both been cancelled.
The
Pointers still have seven regular season games remaining, but do not have
any home games left. UW-Stevens Point has a chance to capture the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title this weekend at the
conference cluster in River Falls and then plays a doubleheader on
Tuesday, May 3 at Winona State. The WIAC tournament will be played May 6-7
in Whitewater. |
