Pointers Land
Five Players on All-WIAC Womens Soccer Squad
UW-Stevens Point had five players land
first-team honors on the all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference team after posting a 12-4-2 overall record and third place
conference finish. It marks the Pointers most all-conference players
since also having five selections in 2002.
Sophomore forward Amanda Prawat received
all-league honors for the second straight year, while senior goalkeeper
Meredith DeCaluwe, junior midfielder Liz Kidd, junior defender Megan
Schmidt and sophomore forward Kaylee Weise all earned their first
all-conference awards.
Prawat, an Oregon native, led the conference
in goals per game with 1.20. She ranked second in overall goals scored
with 18, but missed the teams final three matches of the year with an
injury. Prawat also had six assists for 42 points, which ranked third in
the league. Her 2.80 points per game was second-best in the conference.
DeCaluwe, a Naperville, Ill. native, started
all 18 matches for the Pointers and posted a 1.02 goals against average,
which ranked fourth in the conference. She had four solo shutouts and
was part of five other team shutouts.
Kidd, a Shorewood native, compiled six goals
and two assists for 14 points from her midfield position. She was also a
key member of the Pointers defensive unit. Kidd scored her six goals in
six different matches.
Schmidt, who attended Hartland Arrowhead High
School, led the Pointers defense that allowed just 16 goals in 18
matches to rank second in the conference in defense. The Pointers
limited foes to an average of 8.0 shots per game and held 12 straight
opponents to fewer than 10 shots before their loss to UW-Oshkosh in the
conference tournament.
Weise, a Brookfield East High School graduate,
was the conferences leading scorer with 20 goals and 13 assists for 53
points. All three totals led the WIAC and her points total was the
sixth-highest single-season mark in league history. The Pointers were
12-0 when she scored a point and 0-4-2 when she failed to score. Weise
had 10 goals and nine assists over the five matches prior to the WIAC
semifinals.
Conference champion UW-Eau Claire had the
leagues Player of the Year in Maria Iaizzo and Coach of the Year in
Sean Yengo. |
