Pointers Pass the Test Against UW-La Crosse

Box Score

A crisp team passing effort resulted in three goals and a victory as the UW-Stevens Point womens soccer team earned a 3-2 triumph over UW-La Crosse on Wednesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

All three of UW-Stevens Points goals were set up by perfect passes as the Pointers improved to 6-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the victory. UW-La Crosse fell to 3-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the WIAC.

Katie Waterman started the passing attack, threading a ball through a pair of Eagles defenders to Kaylee Weise, who finished a shot along the ground to the far post for an early lead. UW-La Crosse answered less than three minutes later with a sharp pass of its own as Ramsey Weyenberg sent a cross in front that Pointers goalkeeper Meredith DeCaluwe deflected, but Eagles midfielder Erin Wilson was in position to convert the loose ball into a goal.

The Pointers took the lead for good at the 34:12 mark of the first half as Liz Kidd fed a pass to Amanda Prawat, who drilled a shot past Eagles goalkeeper Amanda Clark.

Kidd added a goal of her own midway through the second half, taking a corner kick from Alison Regal and launching a perfect shot into the upper corner at the near post for a 3-1 advantage.

UW-La Crosse added a goal with 23 seconds left in the match as Mandy Rue converted a cross from Sarah Harrington.

The Pointers outshot the Eagles 21-8 for the match and set themselves up for several other solid scoring opportunities as Clark made seven saves for UW-La Crosse.
