Pointers Pass the Test Against
UW-La Crosse

A crisp team passing effort resulted in three
goals and a victory as the UW-Stevens Point women�s soccer team earned a
3-2 triumph over UW-La Crosse on Wednesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
All three of UW-Stevens Point�s goals were set
up by perfect passes as the Pointers improved to 6-2-2 overall and 2-1-1
in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the victory.
UW-La Crosse fell to 3-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the WIAC.
Katie Waterman started the passing attack,
threading a ball through a pair of Eagles� defenders to Kaylee Weise,
who finished a shot along the ground to the far post for an early lead.
UW-La Crosse answered less than three minutes later with a sharp pass of
its own as Ramsey Weyenberg sent a cross in front that Pointers�
goalkeeper Meredith DeCaluwe deflected, but Eagles� midfielder Erin
Wilson was in position to convert the loose ball into a goal.
The Pointers took the lead for good at the
34:12 mark of the first half as Liz Kidd fed a pass to Amanda Prawat,
who drilled a shot past Eagles� goalkeeper Amanda Clark.
Kidd added a goal of her own midway through
the second half, taking a corner kick from Alison Regal and launching a
perfect shot into the upper corner at the near post for a 3-1 advantage.
UW-La Crosse added a goal with 23 seconds left
in the match as Mandy Rue converted a cross from Sarah Harrington.
The Pointers outshot the Eagles 21-8 for the
match and set themselves up for several other solid scoring
opportunities as Clark made seven saves for UW-La Crosse. |
