Jacob Lands Head
Womens Soccer Post at Marian
UW-Stevens Point womens soccer assistant
coach Michelle Jacob has been selected to lead the program at Marian
College as the second head coach in the history of the Sabres program.
Jacob, a former first-team All-American player at UW-Stevens Point,
spent three seasons as the top assistant coach with the Pointers and
Sheila Miech. Jacob was a full-time staff member the past two seasons as
part of an NCAA internship where she also served the athletic department
as an assistant to the athletics director.
At Marian, Jacob replaces Craig Peltonen, who
previously coached both the schools mens and womens programs for 16
seasons. Peltonen will focus entirely on the mens program beginning
this fall. Jacob begins her full-time duties on Feb. 12 and inherits a
team that finished 4-12-1 overall and 3-8 in the Northern Athletics
Conference. The Fond du Lac school has an enrollment of 1,360 students
and has never faced UW-Stevens Point in womens soccer.
The Pointers posted a 36-16-5 record during
Jacobs three seasons as an assistant coach, including a 12-4-2 mark
during the 2006 season.
I think it is a great fit for me and I am
very excited to meet the student-athletes, Jacob said. This has been a
goal of mine and I cant wait to get started.
I couldnt be happier for Michelle and this
opportunity, UW-Stevens Point athletics director Frank OBrien said.
She was a terrific player and coach for us and I know shell make a
great head coach. She will always be a part of the Pointer family.
Jacob was the 2001 Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a midfielder after leading the
Pointers to their fourth straight conference title. She recorded 27
goals and 20 assists for 74 points in her four seasons as the team
compiled a record of 75-15-2.
A Neenah native, Jacob was the junior varsity
girls soccer coach for two seasons at Wisconsin Rapids High School. She
graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a degree in Sociology. |
