Pointers Drop Tight Match at UW-River Falls

For the second straight
match, UW-Stevens Point's opponent scored in the closing minute to hand
the Pointers' women's soccer team a heartbreaking one-goal defeat as
UW-River Falls posted a 2-1 victory on Saturday in River Falls.
The Falcons' Sarah Carlson
scored her second goal of the match with 5:41 remaining to break the 1-1
tie and lift UW-River Falls to its first-ever win over the Pointers in 16
all-time meetings.
Carlson opened the scoring
at the 33:16 mark of the first half before Gwen Blasczyk tied the match
for the Pointers with an unassisted goal less than three minutes before
halftime.
UW-Stevens Point controlled
the first half, outshooting the Falcons 7-3, however, UW-River Falls had
an 11-7 advantage in the second half as each team finished with 14 shots
for the match.
Amanda Nechuta made her
first career start in goal and made two saves for the Pointers, who are
now 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. UW-River Falls is 9-1
overall and 3-1 in the league.
