Early Goal All Pointers Need to Defeat Carroll
Box Score
Gwen Blasczyk's goal 52
seconds into the match proved to be all the scoring the UW-Stevens Point
women's soccer team needed in a 1-0 victory over Carroll on Saturday at
the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
Amanda Prawat passed to a
wide open Blasczyk 15 yards out directly in front of the net. Blasczyk
took her time and drilled a shot past Pioneers' keeper Sarah McLaughlin
for the only score.
UW-Stevens Point outshot the
Pioneers 13-4 in the first half, but the second half was much more evenly
played. Most of the play after halftime was in the midfield as the
Pointers held a 3-1 edge in shots for a 16-5 margin for the match.
It was the third straight
shutout for the Pointers as Meredith DeCaluwe made two saves for the win.
McLaughlin made seven saves for Carroll.
The Pointers play at UW-La
Crosse on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
